A Little About Us

We take chimney sweep work in Laguna Hills, CA and the towns around it. Straight pricing, a real arrival window, and a crew that tells you honestly what a job will and will not fix.

The van carries drop cloths, a sealed HEPA vacuum, a rod-and-brush set in several sizes, hand brushes for the smoke shelf, and an inspection camera on a flexible pole. A gas service bag rides along too: manometer, soft brushes for burner ports, a mirror, pilot and thermocouple spares. On site the crew lays cloths from the door to the hearth first, sets the vacuum at the opening and runs it the whole visit, then opens the damper and looks before touching anything. If sweeping is warranted, we rod from the bottom or the top depending on the flue, brush the firebox and smoke chamber, and vacuum as we go. Then the camera goes up the flue and we show you what it sees. If the chimney does not need sweeping yet, we say so and you pay for the visit, not for work that wasn't needed. That happens often enough here that we mention it up front.

Laguna Hills sits in South Orange County, within the South Coast Air Basin and under SCAQMD jurisdiction. Rule 445 bars new permanent wood-burning hearths in new residential construction, so anything built since 2009 is gas or sealed insert by default. The Check Before You Burn program issues mandatory no-burn days basin-wide November 1 through the end of February, which has pushed many wood-burning households here to gas logs and direct-vent inserts. The practical result is two kinds of chimney. Older 1960s–80s stock still has full masonry fireboxes with clay-tile flues. Anything from the 1990s onward is overwhelmingly factory-built metal firebox with a double- or triple-wall metal flue in a stucco or siding chase. We work on all three types you'll find here: open masonry, sealed gas inserts, and factory-built prefab, including Heatilator, Heat & Glo, Majestic, Napoleon, Superior and Empire units.

Because the burning season is short and light, creosote is usually modest. The calls we actually get are rain and marine-air corrosion at caps, chase covers and flashing, rusted dampers, UV-degraded crowns and stucco cracking, birds and rodents nesting in unused flues, and spider or wasp blockage in gas log venting, which is the one that shuts a fireplace down right at the start of the season. Much of the inland foothill area sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so intact spark arrestor screening is a code and insurance matter, not an upgrade. We handle sweeping, inspection, caps, liners, flues, fireboxes and gas fireplace work, plus component repair. We do not do masonry or brickwork, and we'll tell you when that's what you need. On cost, a straight sweep on an accessible open masonry flue is the low end. What moves the number is roof access and pitch, chase height, whether a gas insert has to be pulled and reset to reach the flue, and whether we find a corroded chase cover or missing arrestor that has to be measured and fabricated rather than pulled off the shelf.

We cover Laguna Hills and the surrounding towns. If you're in one of these areas and have a chimney sweep problem, call us. We usually get out the same day.

How we decide between repairing and replacing

Is it worth fixing, or is it time to replace the whole thing? That depends almost entirely on what kind of chimney you have. In Laguna Hills, that usually splits by era. The 1960s-80s stock here still has full masonry fireboxes with clay-tile flues. Those are repairable in pieces. A cracked crown, rusted damper, or failed flashing gets addressed on its own. Replacement is rare on a masonry stack unless tiles are shattered or the stack has separated.

Factory-built units are a different conversation. Anything from the 1990s onward is typically a metal firebox inside a stucco or siding chase. Those are manufactured assemblies. Panels, grates, and chase covers are model-specific parts. When a listed component is discontinued, we say so plainly instead of improvising a fix that voids the listing. Rusted-through chase covers get replaced. A stained one often does not.

Marine air drives most of what we find. Corrosion at caps, covers, and flashing outpaces creosote here, because the burning season is short and Check Before You Burn limits it further. We weigh that when recommending.

Spark arrestor screening in the foothill Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone is not optional. Damaged screen gets repaired or replaced, never deferred.
